Cryotherapy Aftercare
What should I experience after the procedure?
- The treated area may throb for the next 24-48 hours. Take ibuprofen (600-800 mg) every six hours to decrease any discomfort. If the treated area is on a limb, elevation may help decrease discomfort. Cool packs may also help decrease any discomfort.
- Redness, swelling and blister formation are expected over the treated area. Do not lance the blister.
- Keep the area clean, apply a thin layer of antibiotic ointment such as Bacitracin or Polysporin to the site twice a day, and cover with a dressing until a scab forms (normally about 2-3 days).
- Try to avoid any additional trauma to the area and keep it moist while it heals.
- Head and neck wounds will likely take about 4-6 weeks to heal, but those on the body may take longer.
- A slightly dark spot may form as the area heals. If this lasts more than a few weeks it can be treated with IPL.
