Procedures – Glycolic Acid Peels

Glycolic Acid is the most widely recognized out of all the fruit acid or alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) chemical peels. It is usually derived from sugar cane, and as such, is considered to be a natural product. Glycolic Acid is used as a natural exfoliant and moisturizer due to its high acidity and its ability to be absorbed by the skin. During a glycolic peel, the acid moves underneath the damaged upper layers of the skin and breaks apart the bonds that hold the skin to the surface revealing a smoother skin surface and a revitalized appearance. Its natural solubility also draws moisture into the newly exfoliated skin surface leaving it soft and supple.

Immediately following a Glycolic Acid Peel, skin will appear slightly pink as if it were sunburned. Some flaking of the skin is normal up to three days after the treatment. We highly recommend avoiding sun exposure until the skin has finished flaking. If you must go out in the sun, a physical sunblock is recommended. A physical sunblock contains either Titanium Dioxide or Zinc Oxide, or both.
