How long does the SmartLipo procedure take?
The SmartLipo procedure takes an average of 1–2 hours per session depending on how many areas are treated.

How many SmartLipo treatments are required?
Most patients typically require only one treatment. SmartLipo is also an excellent tool for touching up areas that have been previously treated with traditional liposuction.

Does SmartLipo treat cellulite?
Although cellulite is very hard to treat the SmartLipo procedure has proven in several studies to be a benefit in certain patients.

What happens after the treatment?
The incision made for the procedure is so small that it do not even require a single stitch. Most patients can return to work in 1-2 days but should should try to avoid athletic activity for about 10-14 days. Most patients will notice some results immediately. There will be some mild swelling and luminess over the treated area which usually resolves by about four weeks after treatment. On average, most patients see 80% of their final results within 1-3 months of the procedure.

Are the results permanent?
YES! The fat cells that are removed by liposuction do not grow back. Although we cannot stop your body from aging, the benefits of the SmartLipo procedure will always be apparent.

Will I get fat deposits in odd places after SmartLipo?

NO! It is a common false myth that the fat removed by liposuction grows back in other places after the procedure. The number of fat cells your body has was determined by the time you went through puberty. As an adult, your body does not make more fat cells. If you gain weight after Smartlipo, you will gain it proportionally, including in the areas that were treated. It is possible to gain weight again in the treated area, but not to the same extent as prior to the procedure.

Do I have to stay in the hospital?
NO! SmartLipo is performed as an in-patient procedure under local anesthesia. You won’t be required to stay in the hospital, since recovery from SmartLipo works best within the comfort of your home.

What if I’ve already had regular liposuction?
SmartLipo may be extremely effective for improving upon body areas that have been previously treated with traditional liposuction. With the SmartLipo procedure, we are able to further contour the superficial fat and tighten the overlying skin. This is especially true for patients who are relatively thin that desire additional toning and sculpting.

What are the main advantages of SmartLipo over traditional liposuction?

Can SmartLipo work on areas that regular liposuction can’t?
YES! Since the aiming beam at the tip of the canula allows us to know exactly where we are treating at all times, the procedure is very precise. Thus, SmartLipo is very effective in body areas that are not suitable for traditional liposuction, such as the face, neck, back and knees.

Does the SmartLipo procedure hurt?
The procedure is performed under local anesthesia so there is very little discomfort involved. You may feel a minor stinging sensation and an impression of tugging at your skin during the treatment, but these discomforts are minimal.

Is SmartLipo the same as mesotherapy?

NO! SmartLipo is a medical procedure performed by a surgeon to remove unwanted fat while mesotherapy is an unproven spa treatment involving hundreds of vitamin or medication injections into the middle layer of the skin. Mesotherapy has not been proven by any medical science to reduce the amount of fat in the treated area. Many patients have tried mesotherapy and reported that the treatment resulted in pain and bruising, but did not give them the promised results. Depending on the state, many practitioners do not even do the injecting themselves, they allow “tech” to perform the procedure. Also, because the ingredients used in mesotherapy are not standardized, this allows each practitioner to make their own “cocktail”.

Is SmartLipo Right for Me?
Almost every healthy adult is a good candidate for SmartLipo. In general, the ideal candidate:

• is in good health, exercises regularly, is within 25 lbs. of his or her ideal weight and has a body mass index (BMI) under 30
• has one or more areas of local body fat deposits that have responded poorly to diet and exercise
• is bothered by these fatty areas and is motivated to get rid of them permanently
