To understand how incredible of a product BOTOX® Cosmetic is, first we must understand what causes many of our facial wrinkles. Muscles fold skin over and over while we make facial expressions, talk, eat or simply look around. As we age, the skin does not have enough elastin and collagen to bounce back after folding, and a wrinkle forms even when the muscle is not in motion.
BOTOX® Cosmetic is a protein that is placed under the skin in order to relax these muscles so they no longer fold the skin creating creases. BOTOX® Cosmetic can even prevent wrinkles if started before there is a line. However, BOTOX® Cosmetic injections also work after wrinkles have appeared.
A proper BOTOX® Cosmetic injection treatment results in a very natural look and NOT a frozen appearance. More than 3.7 million men and women used BOTOX® Cosmetic injections last year alone. They understand that BOTOX® Cosmetic is a very safe way to look their best. Botox, a prescription medication, is a purified protein that can temporarily decrease muscle contraction resulting in decreased facial lines. By alleviating the creasing of the skin, Botox can prevent wrinkles from ever forming! Botox is best at treating dynamic facial lines caused by facial muscle activity such as:
YES! We have been using Botox safely in patients with Cerebral Palsy and many other muscle contraction disorders for almost twenty years. The amounts used for cosmetic purposes, are often up to 20 times less than amounts used for pathological muscle contractions.
This depends on genetics and how well you protect your skin from environmental damage. You can start Botox at just about any age, but most patients start in their late 20s to early 30s. The key is to start treatment before lines show up at rest. Even if you already have lines at rest, Botox will help smooth those lines out, and will keep them from getting deeper.
This depends on several factors:
Results may appear in a few days but may take up to 2 weeks for the full effect.
Dysport is another manufacturer brand of botulism toxin. It is like comparing Coke vs. Pepsi. Xeomin is another brand that recently came on the market.
Please try to avoid products including Omega Fatty Acids (Fish Oil), Vitamin E, Flax Seed, NSAIDS (Aleve, Motrin, Advil), aspirin and red wine before and after your treatment.
Our experienced Registered Nurse, Laura Carlsen, will discuss your expectations and what areas you are interested in having treated. She will spend as long as needed until you are comfortable before your treatment. Immediately before your procedure, the treatment area will be cleaned with alcohol. A very fine needle (the same used by diabetics for their daily insulin treatments) will be used to administer the Botox. Laura is very gentle, and almost all patients report minimal, if any, pain. The total treatment time is only about 10 minutes.
